Dhaka University students organized debates, meetings, processions, and strikes that carried the Language Movement from campus politics into public protest.
Between 1948 and 1952, the campus became a key site for opposition to the attempt to impose Urdu as Pakistan’s sole state language. Students challenged restrictions including Section 144 and joined wider civic mobilization.
Their collective action helped turn language rights into a mass political demand and made the movement a foundational chapter in East Bengal’s later democratic and nationalist history.
